Roman walk

Terragona was a 2,000 year old city when the Romans arrived in the second century BC. They enjoyed the location so much they started a massive building program with all the amenities of a Roman city.

To get up to the old city we had to walk a few blocks to a choice of old steps, new steps, and a series of four escalators between the two sets of steps. Guess which I opted for.
A bit more walking along the crest of the hill lead to the Roman ruins. Looking out to sea. The train station is just behind the marina. The edge of the commercial docks in the far, upper right.
The gladiator colosseum just visible behind the trees.
Of course, 2,000 years later a lot of changes. Here a Roman wall next to a new church built in the 1600's with "modern" apartment buildings next door.
A lot of narrow streets, then a wide plaza - usually with a church.
Exiting the old city we came upon a sign pointing out where during medieval times a wall was built joining the existing Roman wall. The concept of of adding on is not new.
After all this walking De Anne took me to the beach for a refreshing swim in the Mediterranean and chance to work on my tan. There were quite a few folks there with a head start and tanning more than I was.
